Reedsport Police have updated the case involving possible threats of violence against students in the Reedsport School District.

Interim Chief of Police Kirk Sanfilippo said their investigation began on Monday but that same day officers felt the issue had been resolved. Consequently, schools remained open on Tuesday. That evening a second investigation was opened, which led to the school district’s decision to close the schools and halt related activities.

Sanfilippo said Thursday night at 10:15 p.m. a 13-year old male juvenile who attends Reedsport Community Charter School, was taken into custody and lodged at the Douglas County Juvenile Detention Center on multiple charges. Sanfilippo said the department is certain that this threat of violence against the schools and involved students has been resolved. However, the investigation is continuing.

Sanfilippo said he would like to thank a number of agencies that assisted in the investigation. That included nearby police departments, the Safe Oregon Tip Line, the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and Explosives, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
