Douglas County Commissioners Tim Freeman, Chris Boice and Tom Kress issued a proclamation in honor of National Child Abuse Prevention Month during their weekly meeting on Wednesday.

A release from County government said the proclamation recognizes that child abuse and neglect are serious problems affecting every segment of the community. It said effective child abuse prevention activities succeed because of the strong partnerships and collaborative efforts created between local health and social service agencies, law enforcement agencies, the District Attorney’s Office, public and private schools and many other organizations. Prior to the meeting, guests joined the Board on the front lawn of the courthouse to line the walkways with pinwheels. The planting of pinwheels is a traditional event that takes place around the country during this month. Ten local organizations were part of the event.
