The City of Winston has authorized the Winston Police Department to increase its staffing level by one officer.

Police Chief Brandon Sarti said this will be the first staff increase to the department’s patrol division in around three decades. Sarti said the city’s economic and housing development has helped make this increase possible. The new officer will help provide the city with better law enforcement coverage, reduce overtime expenditures and improve officer safety.
