In the KQEN Cultural Spotlight:

The League of Women Voters of Umpqua Valley and the Umpqua Community College Performing and Visual Arts present “Frontier Family Feud” April 1st and 2nd.

The new musical is based on the relationship between the “mother of equal suffrage” Abigail Scott Duniway and her brother, Oregonian editor Harvey Scott. It is presented in commemoration of the 100-year anniversary of the ratification of the 19th amendment, which gave women the right to vote. Theatre Director Christina Allaback said the musical breaths life into these dynamic historical figures and reveals some of the complexity of their sibling relationship.

Allaback said the musical was created for live public and school performances to bring both history and music to audiences of all ages. It was written by Dr. Jason Heald in 2020.

The Friday April 1st performance will include a pre-show panel discussion on voting issues of the past and present, hosted by the League of Women Voters of Umpqua Valley at 5:00 p.m. The performance will be at 7:00 p.m. Saturday’s performance is at 3:00 p.m.

Admission is free but donations will be accepted. It will be performed in the Whipple Fine Arts Center at UCC.
