UMPQUA HEALTH ALLIANCE ANNOUNCES NEW BENEFIT

Umpqua Health Alliance has announced that it is partnering with Foodsmart, a telenutrition and food care company to provide a new benefit for its Medicaid members.

UHA Chief Medical Officer Dr. Douglas Carr said Foodsmart will help members understand how to choose foods that improve how they feel and prevent or treat health conditions. Carr said the program not only makes nutritious food accessible for the first time for many of their members, but also ensures they are paying lower costs and have dietitians educating them and helping them with positive behavior changes to benefit their everyday lives.

The release said Foodsmart is the largest national network of registered dieticians. Dieticians create customized meal plans with recipes, while an app enables members to competitively shop grocery delivery services and access meals to go. Foodsmart grocery lists can be filled out online in less than 5 minutes, with an average cost savings of 34 percent per order.
