Roseburg Police jailed a man in an alleged fraud case on Thursday.
The RPD report said on February 28th it was reported that someone had taken a gas card from a company pickup and made several unauthorized transactions. 2 transactions were at Walmart and 1 was at the DC Farmer’s Co-op. Video footage allegedly showed a man using the stolen credit card during 3 transactions. Through video, officers identified the suspect as Anthony Cortes.
The report said to better build the case, an officer had contact with Cortes the day before the theft was reported and observed that he was in possession of a new bicycle. When the officer looked back at the body camera during that contact, they noticed that Cortes was wearing the same clothing as the clothing he had on when he purchased items using the stolen credit card.
Thursday Cortes was located in the 200 block of Northwest Garden Valley Boulevard after he reportedly stole another bicycle.
Cortes was charged with 3 counts each of 2nd degree theft, fraudulent use of a credit card and computer crime along with criminal mischief in the 2nd degree. Bail was set at $331,250.
