Covering coastal Douglas County:

A Freeze Warning is in effect through 8:00 a.m. Friday for the south-central Oregon coast.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said sub-freezing temperatures as low as 28 degrees are expected along the coast in both Douglas and Coos counties. Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage outdoor plumbing.

A Beach Hazards Statement remains in effect through Saturday evening. There is a moderate to high risk of sneaker waves. These are waves that have an unusually high run up on beaches when compared to other observed waves. Forecasters said even during calm conditions, sneaker waves can sweep up the beach without warning and knock unsuspecting people over and pull them out to sea. Shock and hypothermia can occur quickly in cold Pacific waters. In addition, logs and other debris can be lifted and carried by the waves, crushing or entrapping unsuspecting victims underneath.

Those at the coast should avoid climbing on rocks and jetties. They should stay away from the ocean and remain out of the water to avoid hazardous conditions.
