A Vernonia man was jailed for unauthorized use of a vehicle by Roseburg Police on Wednesday.

An RPD report said shortly after 10:00 a.m. security officers found an employee’s car damaged by a suspect who intended to steal it, in the 2700 block of Northwest Stewart Parkway. The report said the suspect had managed to back it out of a parking space. Video surveillance in the area yielded a description of the suspect, who was found nearby as he was walking in Gardiner Park.

The man, identified as 37-year old Troy Hardee was taken into custody. Hardee was also charged with criminal mischief in the second degree and for a probation violation warrant. Bail was set at $56,250.

The vehicle was released to its owner, who had to call a tow truck due to the damaged ignition.
