The Roseburg Senior Center will be open to the public as a cooling center Saturday, Sunday and Monday due to the Excessive Heat Warning for the area.

Cooling center hours will be 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Saturday, and 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sunday and Monday. Water will be given out and there are no age restrictions.

Senior Center board member Doris Loveday said, “This is an emergency. We’re not turning anyone away”.

A release from the City of Roseburg said the center’s capacity is limited to 150 as long as everyone wears masks. If some people choose not to wear masks, the center is limited to 50 people according to Ruth Smith, vice president of the senior center board.

Roseburg Public Library will be open for those who want to cool off from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Mask’s are required but there are no capacity limits.

The release said in addition, the Fir Grove Splash Pad at Fir Grove Park is another way to cool off. Its hours of operation are from 10:00 a.m. to dusk daily. It is located behind the Umpqua Valley Arts Center.

Roseburg Fire Chief Monte Bryan urges residents to stay hydrated, minimize sun exposure or avoid it altogether, don’t over exert in the sun- especially from late mornings through early evenings, limit alcohol which dehydrates and wear sunscreen when outside.
