Firefighters with the Douglas Forest Protective Association dealt with a natural cover fire Thursday afternoon.

Kyle Reed of DFPA said it was located about five miles west of Myrtle Creek in the Boomer Hill area. Reed said the fire, which was highly visible from Interstate Five, was estimated to be about three-quarters of an acre in size when crews arrived on the scene at about 4:30 p.m. Despite gusty winds fanning the flames through grass, brush, and young trees, firefighters stopped the forward spread of the fire within twenty minutes of their arrival.

Reed said GPS coordinates of the Boomer Hill Fire mapped the perimeter of the fire at two acres. Firefighters remained on the scene until 9:30 p.m., mopping up hot spots and securing control lines.

A preliminary fire investigation indicated that the Boomer Hill Fire was human caused, however, the specific cause remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the Boomer Hill Fire is asked to contact DFPA.
