ROSEBURG POLICE SAVE A DOG IN THE RIVER

Two Roseburg Police K9 team members saved a dog that was in the South Umpqua River at Stewart Park recently.

Sergeant Daniel Allen said that K9 Sergeant Dingman and K9 Officer Bonebrake assisted a member of the public to retrieve Payton, a 100-pound yellow lab, that had decided to take a swim on a sunny day.

Allen said that John Seward was walking his neighbor’s dog, when the animal jumped in the river. In a message to RPD, Seward said that unfortunately the dog decided to jump in where the riverbank was practically vertical, probably about eight feet or so. Seward said it was too steep and slick for the dog to get back up the bank and after repeated tries, he decided to call dispatch.

Seward said Sergeant Dingman and Officer Bonebrake responded and helped him get Peyton back up the bank.
