A Winston man was jailed following a series of events on Sunday afternoon.

A report from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said at about 2:15 p.m. a deputy was sent to the 200 block of Prairie Street in the Myrtle Creek area following a report of a hit and run.

The deputy located a vehicle lodged in a fence. The report said the property owner said a man later identified as Henry Dodson, had been in a fight with another man. The suspect got in his vehicle and allegedly drove recklessly down the road. The witness said the 42-year old then turned around and began driving back toward the second man. His vehicle went into a ditch which caused it to hit the fence. The witness said Dodson then ran away.

The report said the deputy spoke to the second man who said Dodson was upset over losing a wallet. Dodson then reportedly asked the other man to come outside and threw him onto the ground. Another man tried to intervene then the suspect allegedly pulled out a large knife before taking off in the vehicle and ultimately crashing into the fence.

The report said that multiple witnesses corroborated the other statements.

Dodson was found about two miles from the scene of the accident. He was arrested without incident.

Charges included harassment, menacing, second degree counts of disorderly conduct and criminal mischief, reckless driving, reckless endangering, and for failure to perform the duties of a driver/property damage.

After arraignment, Dodson was held on $10,000 bail.
