Due to current COVID-19 state restrictions, the YMCA of Douglas County is offering limited services differently, and is seeking financial support from the community.
Membership Director Amber Gries told News Radio 1240 KQEN they have been offering outdoor classes to provide accommodations for those who have struggled to exercise with a mask, since July.
Gries said a donation was received to help them purchase an outdoor studio for use once fall rains began. After the Two-Week Freeze was over, they restarted the outdoor classes. Gries said for now they are not allowed to open the indoor facility for anything other than emergency childcare. She said that restriction has created another financial hit for the non-profit while they are still affected by the pandemic.
Classes are currently for members only. A grant called the Family Wellness Project allows those interested in joining to apply to receive a two-month family membership at no cost. The application deadline is December 31st. For more information, go to: https://www.ymcaofdouglascounty.org/wellnessproject
Gries said the YMCA has received a $50,000 matching pledge from a family. That means those who contribute now will have their donation doubled. Go to www.ymcaofdouglascounty.org/donate Gries said donations will help the organization keep its doors open so they can continue to serve the community.
