A 5th Douglas County resident has died from COVID-19.
County Public Health Officer Dr. Bob Dannenhoffer said the new death was a 64-year old man who was found deceased at his residence in Myrtle Creek on Saturday. Dannenhoffer said during the post-mortem investigation, multiple COVID-19 tests were performed and all returned positive test results. It was discovered that, unbeknownst to the Douglas Public Health Network, that the man was directly linked to a positive Douglas County case that is currently in isolation. Dannenhoffer said the man had apparently been sick with symptoms of the virus, but had not been tested for COVID-19 prior to his death. This is the first post-mortem COVID-19 related death in the county, In the interest of privacy, no additional information will be released.
5 more people have received positive test results and there are 3 more presumptive cases of COVID-19 in Douglas County, as of Thursday. An update from the Douglas County COVID-19 Response Team said the total number of cases is now at 341. Of those, 303 are people that have received positive test results and 38 are presumptive. 4 people are currently hospitalized for COVID-19. 3 of those are being hospitalized locally, with 1 hospitalized out of the area. 49 people are currently in isolation and 179 people are in quarantine. 15,049 people have tested negative for COVID-19 in the county.
The next drive through testing clinic with the Douglas Public Health Network will be Friday in Roseburg.
