A Grants Pass man was jailed after attempting to elude police on Tuesday night.
A report from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said at about 10:15 p.m. a deputy was headed southbound on Interstate Five north of Glendale when he was passed on the right by a car which was exceeding 100 miles per hour. The deputy initiated a pursuit and the vehicle drove into the Wolf Creek area. The car spun out into the ditch as it tried to turn onto Coyote Creek Road.
The report said the deputy attempted to block the vehicle in the ditch but the car exited the ditch and ran into the patrol vehicle at a low speed, causing minor damage. The car continued to try and get away but spun out again on the same road. The rear tire had popped off the wheel during the crash into the ditch. The deputy pinned the patrol vehicle up against the car and ordered the driver out.
The report said the driver refused and a taser was deployed. The man exited the vehicle and was taken into custody. He was allegedly found to be in possession of 1 pound of marijuana.
28-year old Erik Jenkins was charged with attempt to elude, reckless driving, driving while suspended, resisting arrest and for unlawful possession of marijuana. After arraignment, he was detained on $10,000 bail.
