A female transient from the Medford area was jailed on kidnapping charges Monday afternoon.
A report from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said at about 1:00 p.m. a deputy was sent to an active domestic disturbance in the 9000 block of Hubbard Creek Road in Umpqua. The report said the deputy spoke with the suspect and the victim as he was responding to the area. 34-year old Fawn Hernandez had cuffed the victim to herself and was sitting on top of her.
When deputies arrived, they attempted to remove the cuffs from the victim, but the suspect struggled against their efforts. After being told she was under arrest, the suspect allegedly pulled away and would not let deputies cuff her. She was taken to the ground where she continued to struggle until she was placed in cuffs, according to the report.
The victim told deputies that Hernandez had placed a knee on her chest, causing her to have breathing issues. The report said the victim wanted to get up and leave, but Hernandez would not allow her to do so.
Hernandez was charged with kidnapping, strangulation, harassment and for resisting arrest. She was detained on $258,750 bail.
