FEMA HELP AVAILABLE FOR WILDFIRE VICTIMS

October 8, 2020 3:40 a.m.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has a variety of help available for those impacted by the recent wildfires.

Nathan Custer of FEMA said people need to apply for assistance as soon as possible to ensure they receive the benefits for which they are eligible.

Custer said housing assistance is tailored to individual and household needs. The American Red Cross has secured motel stays for survivors through late November. Custer said survivors should contact their insurance companies as soon as possible to access their benefits. He said some policies have a living allowance available. FEMA rental housing assistance is already providing applicants with rental assistance, which can last up to 18 months. Custer said for longer term housing solutions, FEMA is conducting a comprehensive analysis of housing needs in order to provide recommendations to the State of Oregon, soon.

Those who have homeowners, flood, automobile, or mobile home insurance should call their provider to start their claims process. The insurance settlement amount received must be reported to FEMA,

Custer said survivors should save their receipts and take photos before they begin the clean-up process. Documentation of losses will help FEMA to process claims.
