Crews with the Oregon Department of Transportation are assessing damage on hundreds of miles of roads around the state, that have been damaged by wildfires.
An update said staff are removing thousands of trees along with inspecting culverts, bridges, guardrail and pavement.
It will be some time before roads reopen, partially or fully, to traffic. Even when roads do reopen, ODOT crews will continue monitoring for hazards including landslides or loose rock in places where wildfires have scarred the landscape.
The update said a new webpage is tracking this progress showing what has been done and still needs to be done, to reopen closed roads. It is linked with our story at www.541radio.com: https://www.oregon.gov/ODOT/Pages/Wildfire.aspx
Trees are being removed on Highway 138E, Oregon 126 the Mckenzie Highway and Oregon 22 North Santiam Highway. Crews are still assessing how many trees need to be removed, but on Oregon 22 alone, it is in the hundreds of thousands.
