A Roseburg man was taken to the hospital after a single vehicle wreck on Wednesday night.
A report from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said at about 7:50 p.m. the accident happened in the 8000 block of Coos Bay Wagon Road. The report said when the deputy arrived on the scene, medical was already removing the driver to take him to the hospital.
The report said the passenger was uninjured and said he had been bear-hunting with the driver all day. He said he thought the driver swerved to miss a deer before the wreck.
The report said the pickup left the right side of the road, and went on the steep shoulder for approximately 60 feet before re-entering the roadway and hitting the embankment on the opposite side of the road. The vehicle had heavy front-end damage and the rear of the vehicle was partially blocking the opposite lane. It was towed from the scene.
According to the report, a deputy interviewed the driver at the hospital. The driver, a 28-year old man, reportedly admitted that he had been drinking the day and should not have been driving. He said he didn’t know what happened to cause the wreck. The man registered an initial blood alcohol level of .24 while at the hospital. That is three times the legal limit.
