UNITED WAY TO RECEIVE FUNDING FOR EMERGENCY FOOD AND SHELTER

May 21, 2020 3:30 a.m.
Greater Douglas United Way has been chosen to receive just over $47,000 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in Douglas County and over $67,000 for COVID-19 response.
Executive Director Bryan Trenkle said the selection was made by a National Board that is chaired by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency and consists of a diverse coalition of religious organizations and the United Way worldwide.
Trenkle said a local board was charged to distribute funds appropriated by Congress to help expand the capacity of food and shelter programs in high-need areas across the country. The group is made up of United Way staff, local service providers and volunteers and will determine how the funds awarded to United Way are to be distributed among the emergency food and shelter programs run by local service agencies in the area.
Public or private agencies interested in applying for Emergency Food and Shelter Program funds should contact Greater Douglas United Way for an application. They are due back by Wednesday May 27th at 1:00 p.m.
