Douglas County Commissioners selected Dan Loomis to be Interim Douglas County Clerk during their weekly meeting Wednesday morning.
Loomis, who has been working for the Umpqua Economic Development Partnership, was the only one of three candidates to apply that did not currently work in the Clerk’s Office. Loomis is an Army combat veteran and has past experience in a number of career areas. He has so far been the only person to apply for the elected County Clerk position, which will be voted on in the 2020 election cycle.
The other applicants were Rosemarie Wess and Andrew Taylor.
Wess is currently the chief deputy clerk and has worked for the county since 2000, starting in other departments before coming to the Clerk’s Office. Clerk Patricia Hitt, who officially retired on Monday, had asked commissioners to pick Wess, when she announced her retirement in August. Taylor is the Office Manager for the Clerk’s Office. He has been employed there for over three years after working in other county departments.
The board decision came on a unanimous vote from Commissioner’s Tim Freeman and Chris Boice. Tom Kress did not attend the meeting.
Loomis is scheduled to take the Oath of Office and begin as the Interim County Clerk at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. He will hold the office until the end of 2020.
Loomis was a candidate for county commissioner in 2018 before he dropped out and endorsed the eventual winner, Tom Kress.
