Officials with Pacific Power have provided information related to last Friday afternoon’s outage, which left up to 32,000 customers without power for at least 40 minutes.
Regional Business Manager Sam Carter said a preliminary investigation indicates that a protective relay malfunctioned. He said engineers are continuing to investigate the cause of that malfunction.
Carter said there was a planned outage in Merlin that day and an-unplanned outage in Albany that was probably caused by a bird on a tree branch. Carter said neither of those outages had anything to do with the outage that impacted Douglas County.
