Crews from the Douglas Forest Protective Association and other agencies tackled a fire southwest of Riddle Friday afternoon.
Kyle Reed from DFPA said their firefighters along with personnel from Riddle Rural Fire Department, Tri-City Rural Fire Department, Canyonville-South Umpqua Fire Department and the Myrtle Creek Fire Department responded to a natural cover fire at about 4:15 p.m. It was 3 miles from Riddle near the 3,000 block of Glenbrook Loop Road.

Reed said firefighters found a half-acre fire that was burning on both sides of the road and was being pushed by the wind. A helicopter was used to slow the fires spread while firefighters and a bull dozer worked their way around the perimeter of the blaze, creating fire lines and installing hose lays. Reed said crews remained on the scene of the Glenbrook Loop Fire until around 10:00 p.m., mopping up hot spots.

The fire burned a total of 2 acres of grass and brush. Several outbuildings were threatened by the fire, but no damage was reported. A preliminary investigation revealed that the cause of the fire was powerline related.
