The Roseburg City Council will hear a report from Mayor Larry Rich regarding the search for a new city manager to begin its meeting on Monday night.
At the June 24^th council meeting, Mayor Rich said the search would be discussed at the next meeting. City Manager Pro-Tem Nikki Messenger said an Executive Session would be scheduled for the topic at 6:00 p.m. but only the mayor’s report is listed on the Monday agenda. Roseburg has been without a permanent city manager since Lance Colley retired effective April 30^th. Public Works Director Messenger added the city manager pro-tem role the next day.
Paul Eckert had been named the final candidate for the position but withdrew his name on May 1^st. He remains the city administrator for Gridley, California.
The council will also consider a resolution regarding a fee for Douglas County schools that want to be able to access materials from the Roseburg Public Library. Staff and the library commission are recommending that the fee be set at $20 per card.
The agenda includes a resolution to approve a budget re-appropriation for the new fiscal year just under way, so that a Communications Specialist position could be added. Estimated starting pay for the position would be $58,000. With benefits, the position would cost around $102,000 per year. Councilors asked for the resolution after appearing positive about the idea of hiring a Communications Specialist at the last meeting.
The council will also vote on authorizing the city manager pro-tem to sign a letter of commitment for a $50,000 annual contribution for a Sobering Center in Roseburg, contingent on full-operational funding being identified and committed by other entities.
Other items are on the agenda as well. The meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers.
