WOMAN CHARGED IN THEFT OF ANIMAL

A Roseburg area woman was charged after allegedly taking a companion animal from a man on Saturday morning.
A report from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to the AM/PM Arco on John Long Road in Rice Hill, at about 9:00 a.m. The report said that 57-year old Shari Phillips had been reported to be acting disorderly. During the investigation deputies determined that the woman had stolen a dog from a woman and was trying to leave with it.
Phillips was charged with first-degree theft and for second-degree disorderly conduct. She was detained on $52,500 bail. The dog was returned to its owner.
