On Monday, Wildlife Safari released a statement regarding commitment towards continuous improvement, conservation, and future Association of Zoos and Aquariums accreditation after not being granted continued accreditation with AZA.
A release from the board of directors said Wildlife Safari is reaffirming its commitment to wildlife conservation, exceptional animal care, and meaningful guest experiences as it moves forward following the recent decision by the AZA regarding its accreditation status.
Chairman of the Board of Directors Pat Markham said, “While we are disappointed in this outcome, we are focused on the future.” Markham said, “We are committed to making the necessary improvements and look forward to earning accreditation once again.”
The release said Wildlife Safari has already begun implementing improvements identified during the review process and is participating in AZA’s Pathway Toward Membership Program. Through this program, the organization is taking a proactive approach by working with AZA and utilizing their resources and guidance to strengthen operations and prepare for future accreditation.
Markham said, “We are incredibly grateful for the support of our community.” Markham said, “The encouragement we have received from everyone means a great deal to us. We sincerely thank our community for standing with us as we move forward.”
Lead Veterinarian Dr. Benji Alcantar said, “The health and welfare of the animals in our care remain our highest priority. Our veterinary and animal care teams remain dedicated to providing excellent care. We recognize the importance of the accreditation process and take the concerns identified by AZA seriously.
Wildlife Safari says it remains dedicated to its mission of conservation, education, animal care, and scientific advancement. The park is committed to honoring that trust through action, accountability, and updates on its progress.
While the organization is disappointed by not being granted continued accreditation with AZA, it views this moment as an opportunity to strengthen operations, enhance facilities infrastructure, and continue advancing its mission.
