Just over five years since the opening of their Roseburg Sobering Center, Adapt Integrated Healthcare is now expanding service across county lines by opening a new center in Coos County.
On October 26th, the healthcare non-profit will hold a soft opening of a new Sobering Center based in Coquille at the Coos County Jail.
Like the Roseburg location, Coquille’s new Sobering Center aims to provide intoxicated people with a safe location to get sober. Once their condition improves, they are connected with resources such as substance abuse treatment services, peer support, housing assistance or mental health services.
Initially, Adapt plans to partner with the Coos Bay Police Department and handle initial intakes during the soft launch, eventually expanding access to law enforcement.
Adapt Chief of Regional Business Operations Jerry O’Sullivan said the center will operate in the jail’s old juvenile detention center. Staffing will consist of at least person per shift along with a supervisor. Remodeling was required to get the center ready for use.
Adapt Substance Use Disorder Program Director Chrystine Deuel said she hopes the center helps connect individuals with support services and relieve strain on other services providing assistance.
Coos County Sheriff Gabriel Fabrizio said the center’s opening helps address treatment needs for intoxicated individuals in need of care.
