Roseburg Police jailed a man for a littering incident early Monday morning.

An RPD report said at approximately 2:20 a.m. officers observed the 53-year-old grabbing garbage out of a trash can and throwing it on the ground in the 400 block of Southeast Spruce Street. When asked why he was doing that, the man said because the garbage smelled bad. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to corrections. The man was charged with offensive littering and detained on $1,250 bail.
