Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin has endorsed Matt Kowal for Roseburg City Council Ward 3.

A campaign release said Hanlin cited Kowal’s commitment to public safety, economic development, responsible growth, and cooperation between city leadership and law enforcement.

In a recent letter addressed to Roseburg residents, Hanlin emphasized the importance of collaboration between local government and law enforcement in maintaining a safe, thriving community.

Hanlin said, “As your sheriff, I have a responsibility and a vested interest in the safety of everyone in our community, including those within Roseburg’s city limits.” Hanlin wrote, “Public safety requires strong cooperation between law enforcement and city leadership. Matt Kowal understands the importance of that cooperation.”

Hanlin expressed confidence in Kowal’s ability to work collaboratively with community members and fellow elected officials to address the city’s challenges and build a stronger future. He said, “I firmly believe Matt will listen, collaborate and work towards returning Roseburg’s tremendous potential into lasting opportunity”.
