Additional rainfall and unseasonally cool temperatures have promoted a further decrease in fire danger across Jackson and Josephine counties.

A release from the Oregon Department of Forestry Southwest Oregon District said as of 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, the fire danger level decreased from “high” to “moderate”. The Industrial Fire Precaution Level remains at Level 2.

Public Information Officer Samantha Kadera said the change affects 1.8 million acres of state, private, county, city and Bureau of Land Management forestlands in the two counties.

Kadera said despite the rainfall and decrease in fire danger, outdoor debris burning remains prohibited.
