CASTLE FIRE CONTAINMENT AT 87 PERCENT

August 13, 2026 9:50 a.m.

The Castle Fire, burning 23 miles northeast of Tiller, is 87 percent contained.

The fire is still listed at 3,613 acres with 388 personnel assigned to the incident.

A Southern Area Gray Incident Management Team update said firefighters continue to mop up and patrol for any heat sources. Rehab work, chipping, and back hauling equipment from the fire line will be conducted. The Castle Fire is being managed for full suppression.

Temperatures will hover right around normal for this time of year, with daytime humidity between 25 and 35 percent. Winds across the area will be in a diurnal pattern, with light downslope/down-valley flows overnight, and breezy upslope/up valley in the afternoons. Ridges will see breezy west to northwest afternoon winds. Thunderstorm chances will be low through the weekend, but with a trough overhead, a highly isolated storm is possible.

The Umpqua National Forest expanded closure area remains in place. All National Forest System lands, roads and trails are closed to the public within the closure area. It includes several recreation areas.
