The Castle Fire burning on the Umpqua National Forest is listed at 3,612 acres and 67 percent containment as of midday Saturday. It is burning 23 miles northeast of Tiller with 679 personnel working on the incident.

An update from F.D.N.Y. Incident Management Team said firefighters continue to mop up during the day. On Friday, potential spot fires were caught and surpressed. Firing operations have ceased due to successful firing. Control lines remain in place and are holding, while contingency lines continue to be constructed. Lower smoke production is being seen throughout the fire area. The Castle Fire is being managed for full suppression.

A cooling trend has begun with temperatures dropping below 100 degrees and slowly falling over the next few days. Humidity will also begin to rise during this period. This trend may bring winds with it that could affect fire behavior. Fuels remain hot and dry.

The expanded closure order remains in effect on the Umpqua National Forest. All National Forest System lands, roads and trails are closed to the public within the closure area. This includes about a dozen recreation areas. The forest remains in Very High fire danger.
