The Castle Fire burning on the Umpqua National Forest is now listed at 2,630 acres and 22 percent contained as of midday Monday.

677 personnel are working on the fire which is burning 23 miles northeast of Tiller.

An update from California Incident Management Team 3 said firefighters continue to make progress on containment lines. Mop up continues in the northwest and southeast sections of the fire perimeter, while fire operations continue on the southeast side. Backing, flanking and small tree torching is still being observed within the fire perimeter. Crews successfully established fire line and hose around a spot fire, holding it at two acres. The fire continues to be managed for full suppression.

A significant warming trend will continue this week. Temperatures will increase and humidity will decrease, resulting in elevated risk of fire activity.

The Umpqua National Forest continues with an expanded closure order in order to protect the public and provide a safe environment for firefighters. A number of popular recreation areas remain closed.
