Troopers with Oregon State Police jailed a Dillard man following an incident that started on Highway 42 in the Tenmile area on Tuesday afternoon.
An Oregon State Police report said a trooper spotted the wanted suspect walking on the highway near the intersection with Moonhill Road. When the trooper attempted to make contact with the subject to take him into custody, the man, identified as 42-year-oldl Michael Craig Monroe, allegedly brandished a knife and made threats before running into the Tenmile Store.
Monroe ran out of the store and ran into a creek bed to the south of the Tenmile Store. A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office K9 was utilized and located Monroe in the in the bushes. The K9 bit Monroe as he was reportedly brandishing a knife and attempting to cut his throat. The suspect was taken into custody with minor injuries and was transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center before being taken to jail.
Monroe was charged with menacing, unlawful possession of a weapon, being a felon in possession of a restricted weapon, unlawful use of a weapon, a felony count of failure to report as a sex offender, and unlawful possession of methamphetamine. Monroe was detained without bail.
