The Umpqua National Forest will move to Public Use Restrictions Stage 2, beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Friday.

A UNF release said the forest remains in High Fire Danger. In PURs Stage 2, campfires in wilderness and public firewood cutting with an internal combustion engine will no longer be allowed. Campfires within Forest Service-constructed concrete or metal fire rings within designated developed recreation sites are exempt. Additionally, cook stoves, lanterns or campfires fueled solely by gas, jellied petroleum or pressurized liquid fuel or propane with an on/off switch and flammable vegetation that is cleared a minimum or 3-feet away from an open flame on all sides are also exempt.

Stage 2 PURs also include:

*Smoking is prohibited except within an enclosed vehicle, building or area cleared of flammable material at least three feet in diameter.

*Internal Combustion Engine chainsaws are prohibited

*Motorized vehicles may operate only on designated trails and roads. Use of vehicles off National Forest system roads is prohibited except in a area devoid of vegetation within 10 feet of roadway or minimal travel over bare mineral soil to access dispersed camping sites.

*Welding and explosives are prohibited.
