Roseburg Police jailed a man for a report theft incident, in a situation that escalated on Tuesday evening. An RPD report at 6:30 p.m. officers responded to the Salvation Army in the 3000 block of Northeast Stephens Street regarding a theft that an employee said had taken place.

Officers located the suspect, 41-year-old Christian Ellington, and placed him into custody. While transporting him to corrections, Ellington claimed to be overdosing on fentanyl, and therefore was transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center for evaluation. While at Mercy, Ellington allegedly became aggressive and started kicking at hospital staff, eventually kicking a security guard. He knew reportedly attempted to push through officers while in handcuffs to escape custody. Ellington was medically cleared and was taken to jail.

He was charged with third-degree theft, resisting arrest and harassment. Bail was set at $6,250.
