Douglas County’s seasonally adjusted payroll employment declined by 560 jobs for a loss of 1.5 percent over the year to June. Declines were relatively broad, with industries such as retail trade, construction, government, and manufacturing estimated to have lower employment levels than in June 2025.

A State of Oregon Employment Department update said sectors estimated to add jobs over the year were private education and health services, which gained 80 jobs or 1 percent, professional and business services which gained 70 jobs or 2 percent, and financial activities which added 30 jobs or 2 percent. The largest employment losses were in manufacturing which lost 290 jobs or 7 percent, government which lost 130 jobs or 2 percent, and leisure and hospitality which lost 120 jobs or 3 percent.

Regional Economist Henry Fields said Douglas County employment declined by 100 on a seasonally adjusted basis from May to June 2026. Fields said in the not-seasonally adjusted estimates of change by industry, there were estimated gains of 90 in leisure and hospitality, and of 30 in mining, logging and construction. Monthly losses were estimated at 40 in private education and health services, and at 30 in manufacturing.

OED said Douglas County’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 6.2 percent in June, unchanged from the revised May rate of 6.2 percent and the same rate as in June 2025. The Oregon state was 5.2 percent while the U.S. rate was 4.2 percent in June.
