A Roseburg man drowned in the North Umpqua River on July 9th.
A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report released on Thursday said at about 12:25 p.m. 64-year-old Charles Jensen and a 32-year-old friend were floating down the river Amacher Park to Hestness Landing. Jensen flipped his kayak during the first rapid and came up a short time later before going back under the water. The friend pulled Jensen from the water onto the rocks and attempted CPR. The victim was estimated to be under the water for about one minute. Fire and EMS personnel arrived and continued lifesaving efforts, but were unable to revive Jensen. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Douglas County Medical Examiner’s Office responded and assumed responsibility for the death investigation.
Next of kin has been identified and the victim’s now can now be released.
Assisting agencies included Central Douglas Fire & Rescue and the Oregon State Police.
