The Douglas County Solid Waste Department, a division of county government, is teaming up with St. Vincent de Paul of Lane County and Oregon E-Cycles to host a free to the public household electronic -e-cycling event on Saturday, July 18th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The event will take place at Douglas County’s Roseburg Transfer Station located on West McClain Avenue south of Roseburg. The event is free and open to all county residents and small businesses. People can bring a maximum of 7 items or devices to the event. Those with more than 7 items to e-Cycle, should contact St. Vincent de Paul prior to the event at 541-513-4288.

E-Cycling is the recycling of old electronics. That includes computers, laptops, tablets, TV’s, printers, monitors, keyboard and more. It also applies to networking devices, scanners, fax machines, VCR’s and DVD players, cable and satellite equipment. The list of items even includes power tools, Christmas lights, hard drives and computer parts.

These items will not be accepted: loose batteries, hazardous waste, vacuum cleaners, large kitchen appliances, gas-containing items and lighting ballasts.

The release said E-Waste is a serious problem. The world produces 50 million tons of electronic waste a year, becoming the world’s most quickly growing waster source.

Those with questions about the e-cycling event can call the Solid Waste Department at 440-4485.
