Troopers with Oregon State Police along with Canyonville-South Umpqua Fire Department and the Oregon Department of Transportation responded to a single vehicle fire on Interstate 5 Southbound near mile post 95 in the Canyon Creek area on Tuesday afternoon.
An OSP report said at approximately 4:40 p.m. the engine compartment of a semi-truck caught fire as it was heading southbound. The driver, a 31-year-old, was able to pull the truck onto the right-hand shoulder and exit the vehicle before cab went up in flames. One lane of the freeway was shut down for approximately two hours while CSUF got the vehicle fire and a grass fire under control.
The cab of the semi was completely melted down to the chassis, and the trailer sustained fire damage to the front and roof. A towing company responded and towed the semi and trailer from the scene. There were no injuries and no damage to state property.
