Everyone can fish, clam and crab for free in Oregon on Saturday and Sunday, June 6th and 7th, during Free Fishing Weekend.
An update from the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife said no fishing or shellfish licenses or tags are required for those days. Both Oregon residents and non-residents can fish for free.
All other fishing regulations apply including closures, gear restrictions, bag limits, and size restrictions.
Drought conditions make a difference this year. Some smaller lakes and ponds might already be warming up, so consider fishing early in the day or changing it up to warm water fish like bass, bluegill and crappie. Expect lots of rainbow trout to be stocked in Oregon’s ponds and lakes for the weekend. Free Fishing Weekend is also a great weekend to try clamming or crabbing.
ODFW staff, volunteers, and several partner organizations will host events throughout the date on Free Fishing Weekend, bringing all the gear anglers need to get started. Staff and volunteers will hand out fishing equipment and be available to teach how ro fig up, bait, cast, land and clean a catch.
