A city release said the program begins on Monday, June 1st and concludes on Saturday August 22nd. It is free and available to all local readers. A Roseburg Public Library card is not required to participate. Details are available on the library’s website at www.cityofroseburg.org. Reading logs and forms will be available online starting this Sunday, and at the library next Tuesday, June 2nd.

Youth from birth through high school graduation will track the minutes they read or are read to on a log. Each time they read for seven hours, they may select a new book and three treasure chest prizes. When they complete the log – which is 21 hours of reading – they are eligible for the grand prize drawing – a $150 Barnes and Noble gift card. The library is giving away three grand prizes.

In addition to tracking minutes, youth may complete reviews of all the books they read during the program for a chance to win additional prizes displayed in the library’s glass display case.

The library will also have a number of regularly scheduled youth programs throughout the summer.

Adults are invited to play Summer Reading Op-oly, a board game with reading prompts and activities. Participants are eligible for free books and the opportunity to win a $150 gift certificate to Sherm’s Thunderbird Market.

Adults also may write reviews of books they read during the program for the chance to win a $50 gift card to one of four Roseburg businesses.

Major sponsors of the Summer Reading Program are Barb Coen, Douglas County Cultural Coalition, Friends of Roseburg Public Library, the State Library of Oregon and Karen and Jon Wittwer.
