Douglas County Commissioners celebrated National Search and Rescue Week by issuing a proclamation to the Douglas County Search and Rescue coordinators and volunteers at their weekly business meeting on Wednesday.

A county release said the proclamation recognized the dedication of volunteer rescuers and rescue personnel in the county and across the nation.

Commissioner Tom Kress provided a background on the Douglas County Search and Rescue program. Commissioner Chris Boice presented proclamation certificates to Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin, Undersheriff Brad O’Dell and a number of deputies and volunteers involved in the Search and Rescue program.

Douglas County Search and Rescue volunteers completed 97 missions in 2025, utilizing 85 adult volunteers who donated 5,745 hours of their time. They also participated in 48 outreach and education events and conducted 108 training exercises.

In addition to show their support for all Search and Rescue volunteers and personnel, Commissioners have instructed the Facilities Department to Turn the Night Orange, as they have changed the exterior lights on the courthouse to orange lights through Sunday.
