Roseburg Police jailed a man Wednesday, following a Monday night carjacking.
An RPD report said that evening at approximately 10:00 p.m. a victim had just left work at a business in the 2500 block of Northwest Stewart Parkway and was in her vehicle, letting it warm up. A male reportedly approached the driver’s window with a pistol and asked her for the vehicle. When the victim complied, the suspect allegedly asked for her phone as well.
The man then drove off with the vehicle, an SUV, and headed toward Northwest Edenbower Boulevard. The phone pinged in a large area around Northeast Garden Valley Boulevard and Northeast Dee Street. Officers and deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle. The phone was later used nearby.
The suspect was described as a male between age 17 and 23, with no facial hair, a dark hoody and a dark jacket. He was reportedly wearing sunglasses at the time of the incident.
The SUV was located on Tuesday, unoccupied, in the 500 block of Southeast Rose Street. Officers retrieved surveillance footage from various locations and developed 32-year-old Dylan Black as a suspect. On Wednesday morning, Black was detained as he left his residence. A search of the home was conducted, and evidence of the crime was reportedly located inside.
Black was charged with first-degree robbery, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, menacing, unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful entry into a motor vehicle and first-degree theft. He was detained without bail.
