All three seats on the Douglas County Board of Commissioners are up for election this year and have drawn ten challengers with the deadline to file passing on March 10th.

The race for the Position 1 seat held by Tom Kress has attracted Devlan Sorensen, Nick Mitchell and Lorrie Wick. Sorensen’s filing says he is a blaster with a background as a small business owner and manager. Mitchell lists his background as a product designer in the banking industry. Wick’s filing says she is a business owner and self-employed consultant.

For Position 2, incumbent Tim Freeman is being challenged by Brandy Stone, Shane Kelly and Samantha Frost. Stone lists her occupation as being in customer service and sales. Kelly said he is self-employed while Frost lists her occupation as small business owner.

In the race for Position 3, Commissioner Chris Boice faces Andrew Rosales, Steve Hammerson, David Bohn and Kathi Wall-Meyer. Rosales is retired military, while Hammerson is an insurance adjustor. Bohn lists his occupation as a self-employed rock hauler. Wall-Meyer is not currently employed and lists a diverse occupational background.

Douglas County Clerk Daniel Loomis said for the commissioner races, if any candidate receives over 50 percent of the vote in the May 19th Primary Election, they are the winner and the race is over. If that doesn’t happen, then the top two vote getters will face off in the November General Election. Loomis said the last day to register to vote or change political party affiliation ahead of the Primary is April 28th.

The position of Douglas County Commissioner is non-partisan.
