A Glendale man was jailed by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office following an alleged escape and resist incident on Tuesday.

A DCSO report said at approximately 1:40 p.m. deputies went into a business in the 400 block of Pacific Avenue in Glendale to contact the 52-year-old who another deputy had probable cause to arrest from a prior incident. A deputy advised the man that he was under arrest. The man allegedly placed one hand behind his back and acted like he had a gun. The suspect began stating that he was not going to jail and that deputies would have to kill him.

The man then allegedly pulled a wallet out from behind his back acting like it was a pistol. After the attempt to get deputies to shoot him failed, the man reportedly began to run out the back of the store. He allegedly acted like he had a firearm on him while running and would not show his right hand, keeping it behind his back. The man ran between some buildings near Willis Street and Fourth Avenue when deputies lost sight of him.

The report said bystanders directed deputies up a hill at the end of Willis and Fourth. A witness said he had watched the suspect run behind a residence in the 400 block of Willis. The deputy checked behind the building and found the suspect lying on the ground in a small alley way. The man then reportedly jumped onto the roof of the residence and began yelling at the deputy that he would have to kill him.

The suspect then jumped off the opposite side of the roof from the deputy. Deputies caught up with the man in the 400 block of Willis Street and deployed a taser which was ineffective. Deputies eventually tackled the man, who resisted being placed into cuffs and was fighting with deputies. He was eventually taken into custody and transported to corrections. The man was detained without bail.
