Roseburg had the 10th driest January on record since data began being recorded in 1899.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Medford told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN that the Roseburg Regional Airport received 1.92 inches of rain during the month. That is approximately only 40 percent of the normal amount, which is 4.82 inches.
For the rain year which began on October 1st, Roseburg has had 10.81 inches of rain. The normal amount is 17.91 inches, which means the Umpqua Valley is 7.10 inches below the norm, or 60 percent of the average amount. In contrast, at this point last year, the airport had received 20.84 inches of rain, almost twice the amount for the current rain year.
The Umpqua Valley is expecting above normal afternoon high temperatures and continued below normal precipitation for the next week.
