The HIV Alliance is commemorating World AID Day with events around the region, including one in Roseburg on Monday night.

The Oregon-based nonprofit HIV Alliance is having the events to show solidarity, remembrance, raise awareness and provide a call of support for those impacted by HIV/AIDS. Through this shared resilience and unity, HIV Alliance aims to strengthen connections and inspire hope.

HIV Alliance Executive Director Renee Yandel said, “On World AIDS Day, as we reflect on lives lost to HIV/AIDS, it is important for HIV Alliance to make sure that individuals who are currently at risk have access to services that meet them where they are, free from judgment, and address their broader needs for stability and health”. Yandel said, “Our mission is providing access to low-barrier HIV care and prevention services through comprehensive, evidence-based programs that are culturally responsive. Our work supports people living with, or at risk for HIV by addressing their needs with compassion and equity.”

HIV Alliance has been serving Oregon for thirty years, with the mission to support individuals living with HIV/AIDS and prevent new HIV infections. The organization now serves more than 1,200 people affected by HIV across 32 Oregon counties.

World AIDS Day was the first ever global health day. established in 1988.
