A Myrtle Creek man was jailed following an alleged elude and reckless driving incident on Friday night.
A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at 6:30 p.m. a deputy was called to a restaurant in the 100 block of Thompson Avenue in Winston after an employee said a man had refused to pay for his meal and was leaving the property. A deputy witnessed the suspect’s vehicle exit the parking lot and began to follow. Just south of the Dillard Bridge, the deputy observed the vehicle accelerating to around 65 miles per hour. The deputy attempted to stop the sedan, but the driver did not yield. The deputy terminated the pursuit and followed the vehicle at a normal driving pace.
The report said the deputy witnessed the driver conduct several unsafe passes and continue to drive recklessly until just south of Roseburg Forest Products in Dillard. The deputy learned the vehicle was registered to an address in Myrtle Creek. DCSO and Myrtle Creek Police Department units located the vehicle getting off Interstate 5 at the Myrtle Creek exit 108 offramp. The vehicle was pulled over at a nearby business and a traffic stop was conducted.
The driver, a 48-year-old, was taken into custody without incident. The driver was reportedly not cooperative during the investigation. He was transported to corrections and charged with attempting to elude police in a vehicle and for reckless driving. He was detained without bail.
