A fire damaged a house in the Riddle area early Thursday.
Riddle Fire Protection District Fire Chief Devin Loughridge said just before 2:50 a.m. crews were dispatched to a reported house fire in the 2100 block of Riddle Bypass Road. While responding, firefighters were advised that the occupants were stuck in the house. First arriving units got to the scene a few minutes later to find a working structure fire, with all the occupants outside and safe.
Loughridge said the fire was knocked down within ten minutes. Crews remained on scene until 5:00 a.m. to ensure that the fire was completely extinguished. Loughridge said working smoke detectors alerted the residents to the fire and gave them ample warning to get out of the house safely.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Riddle Fire was assisted by Canyonville South Umpqua Fire, Myrtle Creek Fire, Tri City Fire, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Myrtle Creek Police, Cow Creek Tribal Police, Avista Gas and Pacific Power.
